The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall leave England in the afternoon and arrive at St. John’s International Airport at approximately 17:30 (NST). They then travel by motorcade to Mile One Centre* where they will be warmly welcomed by Canadians as well as the Governor General, the Prime Minister, the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador and other dignitaries. They receive military honours and enjoy a cultural performance. The Prime Minister, the Premier and His Royal Highness speak.
The welcoming ceremony will kick off an 11-day coast-to-coast celebration of the places, people and events that make us Canadian and contribute to our sense of belonging. The Prince and The Duchess will share their interest on issues that are of concern to Canadians: the environment, architectural preservation, cultural identity, green construction, social responsibility, sustainable agriculture and military tradition and history, to name only a few.
The program provides Their Royal Highnesses an opportunity to demonstrate their deep affection for Canada and Canadians by rekindling many existing friendships and making many new ones.
* Note that Mile One Centre will be open to the public at 17:15.
