Their Royal Highnesses will officially open the 2009 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, the world’s largest indoor agricultural show and international equestrian competition. Now in its 87th year, the Winter Fair showcases Canada’s best agricultural products and technologies. The Prince and The Duchess join this celebration of Canadian agricultural tradition which highlights how the past lives on through to the present. The Prince joins with many Canadians in supporting local farmers and local farms, which the Fair profiles.

The Prince visits Evergreen Brick Works. The Prince, who for many years has argued for the regeneration of historic sites and the promotion of more sustainable economic activities, will visit this unique regeneration project which will be an international showcase for urban sustainability and green design, combining a large-scale environmental community centre, office space for non-profit organizations and socially conscious private enterprises, event spaces, and demonstration gardens. The Brick Works, which emerged from a grassroots movement, is an outstanding example of sustainable urban landscape. The Prince encourages “buy local” approaches and will meet members of a farmers market which takes place on site once a week to promote local sourcing and to provide a viable economic outlet for local produce. This event is hosted by the Government of Canada.

Their Royal Highnesses then fly to Victoria, where they are welcomed at the provincial Parliament Buildings by the Honourable Steven L. Point, OBE, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia and Premier Gordon Campbell.
